Well here is to my first journal article. *clinks pint glasses*
Today I thought I would write a bit about my next project coming up pretty much for my next folio due in a month or two. A folio idea that I'm pretty excited about and have pondered about for many many hours over many many pints and I'm hoping all this thinking will eventually move from an idea to actual work. Here goes!
Choice. It's something I have not given much thought over before I saw a TEDTalk on Youtube (subscribe instantly!) by Barry Schwartz called 'The Paradox of Choice' [link] and it really did start this 'chaos theory style' avalanche of thoughts to do with the topic and relating them very directly with a broader picture ,eg Life, eventually making my way to a conclusion which can be summed up in a simple statement and here it is: 'Everything we do in life is a choice'. And without going to much in to my philosophy right now I'm very interested in the choices we make and why.
The best way for me to explain my intentions is to say an example. so imagine a photograph of a dinner plate with peas, carrots, mash potatoes, meat, a fairly average dinner, placed on a regular dinning table and the viewpoint taken from an eye position. The image(s) themselves won't have much to them, it's the title that then says "What will you eat first?" that engages the audience to then look further in to the Photograph. This example here is a simple, petty question that starts the audience reacting. I'm looking at doing around 30 of these images with questions ranging from petty to serious. Peoples pissed off faces looking at you asking 'how will you react'?. A selection of houses asking 'Which house will you live in?'.
So yeh thats the idea and i guess I'll keep you all updated on how it goes...
